PLAI-STRLC 2008 Regional Conference and General Assembly

The Philippine Librarians Association Inc – Southern Tagalog Region Librarians Council (PLAI-STRLC) will hold its Regional Conference and General Assembly on September 24-26, 2008 at the Queen Margarette Hotel, Domoit Diversion Road, Lucena City, Quezon Province.

The theme for this year activity is Regional Conference on Empowering Librarians in the 21st Century.” It aims to stress the importance of the involvement of librarians in enabling students and its community to become critical thinkers and effective users of information in all formats and media; strengthen librarian’s understanding of the library’s basic functions and how technology has changed these basic functions; and to empower the administrators, librarians, information professionals and teacher-librarians in conquering successfully the library challenges of the 21st century.

The topics include: ABC’s of Librarians’ Success in the Workplace; Personal and Professional Competencies; Library Administration and Management; Basic Library Functions and Services; Current Trends in Information Technology as Applied to Libraries.

The conference fees are as follows: Live – out: PHP 3000.00 for member*; PhP3300.00 for non-member; (to include lunches/snacks, conference kits and certificate); Live-in: PhP3900.00 for member; PhP 4200.00 for non-member (to include 3days and 2 nights accommodation, with breakfast/dinner, in addition to seminar meals). Accompanying person: PhP 2800.00. General Assembly: PhP 500.00 (to include lunch and snacks).

"W.A.V.E." in the Library Workplace

The Librarians Association of Batangas (LAB) has organized a Forum and 2nd General Assembly entitled “Work, Attitudes, Values and Effectiveness (W.A.V.E.) in the Library Workplace” set on April 18, 2008 from 8:00a.m. to 4:00p.m. at De La Salle Lipa, Lipa City, Batangas. The guest speaker will be Mr. Arnold Capuloy, Director for Linkages and International Relations of De La Salle Lipa.

Registration will start at 7:00a.m. A forum fee of Php300.00 will be collected to cover snacks, lunch, kit and certificate.

The New Face of the 21st Century Libraries and Information Specialists

The Cavite Librarians Association, Inc. (CLASS) will hold its annual seminar on December 5-7, 2007 at the La Sallete Retreat House, Biga, Silang, Cavite. The theme of the seminar is “The New Face of the 21st Century Libraries and Information Specialists”.

The aim of the three day seminar is to enhance the library personnel’s analytical ability, communication skills, intellectual curiosity and service orientation on the current trends and practices in the library world.

The seminar fees are as follow:

Php 3,000 – live-in ( to include accommodations, breakfast/dinner in addition to seminar meals, conference kits and certificate)
Php 2,700 – live-out (to include lunches/snacks, conference kits and certificate)
Php 350 – for CLASS members who will attend only the General Assembly

This will be presented to an FREE open forum/public
hearing on October 10, 2007 Wednesday at the National Library Auditorium at 9:00 am. Registration is

We are pleased to invite you to attend PLAI’s National Congress on November 12-14, 2007 at the College of St. Benilde, Angelo King International Center, Arellano Ave. cor. Estrada St., Malate, Manila with the theme “Developing Competencies: Challenges and Issues”.

The National Congress is an activity of the PLAI for librarians and information professionals/ specialists and library administrators in celebration of the Library and Information Month, every November of each year.

We have invited PRC Associate Commissioner Nilo L. Rosas as our keynote speaker.

The objectives of the congress are as follows:

General Objectives:

• To enlighten library stakeholders on the issues facing the library and information professionals
• To harness the skills and capabilities of librarians and information professionals

Specific Objectives:

1. To enable participants in attaining and maintaining the skills and knowledge necessary for the current and future library work;
2. To assist the participants to look at their library environment and better understand the range of area that has to be enhanced;
3. To enable the participants to identify the skills that are used daily and to further widen the sphere of influence within and outside their organization.
